Five subjects marks, overall percent

English 72/80. Physics 61/70. Chemistry 55/70. Maths 88/100. Optional 70/100. You cannot average the five percents and call it overall if totals are different. That method quietly boosts the 80 paper and dumps the 100 paper. Overall is sum obtained over sum totals. Always. I did the wrong average in 11th and told dad 81 when it was 78. He still brings it up.

Which box you actually fill

Open Subject Percentage. Five rows. Each row obtained and total. Empty row is skipped so if you only have four papers, leave the fifth blank. Dont put zeros unless you actually scored zero. If a number is still in a screenshot gallery, type from the marksheet, not from the screenshot crop that cut the total.

Where people mess it

Biggest mess is converting each to percent first then averaging. Second mess is leaving a total as 100 when that paper was 80. Third is adding sixth subject in row five by mistake and wondering why optional PE is dragging PCB. A second classic: mixing marks of two different exams in one percent. Preboard plus board is two percents. Improvement plus original is a policy question, not a blend.

If one paper is out of 30 practical plus 70 theory and your row only has theory, the overall is a lie till you add practical in that same subject or a sixth row. MarkBoard does not know your scheme. It adds what you type.

What this number is not

It is not a college seat. It is not a scholarship cheque. It is not CBSE or NTA speaking. Subject Percentage on MarkBoard is arithmetic with the labels on the page. Rank lists, grace, moderation, detained lists, they live on other notice boards.

Before you send it to a human

Say the formula in one line when you paste. Obtained over total, or CGPA times multiplier, or present over conducted. Humans fight less when the recipe is visible. If they have a circular, the circular wins. This is an estimate. Your board formula may differ.

Tiny checklist I actually use

Phone brightness up. Marksheet photo uncropped. Obtained first, total second, unless the tool labels it different. Yellow Calculate once. If the result is over 100 or a CGPA over 10 without cap, I did a box swap. If attendance, I say out loud present and conducted so I dont type 75 as present. If two papers remaining, remaining max is the sum of those totals. If parents are watching, I say the recipe before the number so they dont remix it. Then I close the tab. The number is not going to improve because I stare.

A note on English on this page
